Waples Wines northern travellers Series
Round up after 4 events
Bassenthwaite SC hosted round 4 of the 6 event series last weekend. Competitors enjoyed the traditional welcome at “BASS” which is situated in one of the most beautiful settings in the country. Unfortunately the weather was not as good as for some years, the competitors had to deal with a range of conditions up to very blustery with rain squalls as the high winds funnelled down from the fells. As always this proved to be a close competition with the outcome in the balance until the final race.
So far there have been 32 series qualifying boats that have taken part in the series, Congratulations are due to the two teams of Mike Moore/Kayla Sheard from Bassenthwaite and Rob Goodson and Jonathan Mallory from Scarborough who have raced at each event so far. At the 2/3rds stage in the series The boats of Nigel and Gavin Tullet from Royal Windermere and Jon and Julia Ward from Ogston are leading the series with 3 points each. They are closely followed by John Hanson/Helen Selden from Datchet and Simon longstaff/ Jon Denwood from Bassenthwaite who are on equal points one behind the leaders.
There are still two events in the series remaining with Burton SC on the 3rd/4th September and the final event and series prize giving at Dovestone on the 1st/2nd October.
This is the final report from Tom Waples on the National Rankings analysis. It’s the overall summary of our season.
To me, at least, the most obviously striking thing is the breadth that the Class has have this year. This is true on venues, winners, fleet sizes, boat ages etc. Pretty good too has been the strength of the “Top 5”, that is to say the FF Association Championship programme.
Take a look and see what you think….
