3 weeks to the Mercedes Open at Datchet (28/29 March)
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to the Mercedes Open at Datchet Water SC on 28th/ 29th March. We’ve slipped it back a few weeks this year (into Spring) so there’s no excuse for those of you who “don’t do Winter sailing”!
It’s a great chance to sharpen your tactics ahead of the Inland Championships at Bewl – and those travelling from afar are welcome to leave their boats at Datchet for the week (let me know if you’d like to do so).
The Notice of Race (http://www.dwsc.co.uk/UKFFA%20Mercedes%20Trophy%202015%20NoR.pdf) and Sailing Instructions (http://www.dwsc.co.uk/UKFFA%20Mercedes%20Trophy%20Open%202015%20SIs.pdf) can be found on the club and UKFFA websites
See you in 3 weeks

I just saw the piece on the blog re the Morgat slipways and did a hunt on the main website re any news on the Worlds (as I hadn’t seen anything). I found the following:
….but there aren’t any links on this page!!!
I also found an updated worlds qualifications rankings here

Broxbourne Open Mtg 26/27 July.
The second event for the STS is coming up in two weeks time – see the details on the UKFFA website – see you there?!
Please find attached all you need to attend the Open at Burnham in 4 w/e’s time. with free bacon rolls and coffee or tea on arrival at the marina!
The ff Open at Burnham-on-Crouch is on the June 7th/8th.
(the venue for the ff Southern Championships in May 2015)
This will now be the ff 4th Open at Burnham, numbers have increased every year, (last year we had 16 boats…would love to have over 25 this year, to really show the Burnham Clubs what a great boat we have, and enable us to build a fleet).
Launching is by the slipway at the marina at the top of the town, they’ll be a mix of river courses and championship courses over the w/e, so something for everyone, all will be from the Endeavour committee boat start boat .
As is customary now at this Open there’s beer when coming off the water, then we all meet up for Supper at the Royal Corinthian for a sailors supper with a few bottles of wine already on the table… can’t promise Matt will make a speech again this year, but for those present last year it was very moving..!
Bringing support crew….? There’s plently of shops, walking, and a sea wall gives great viewing, as well as a wonderful Club with the best views on the river (if advance warning is given we could possibly arrange a spectator boat). Rooms at the club are availible if you book early, or plenty in the town, and the RCYC will offer free camping and facilities on it’s field (it is summer after all!).
Please can I ask you to just forward this news around your respective fleets, yes, June is not that far away. The Open is two weeks after the Hayling Event and two weeks before the Inlands, so brilliantly placed, and importantly the sailing is refreshingly different to appeal to travellers and as importantly those owners who just want to ‘see what an Open is all about’…so please spread the word.
Any questions don’t hesitiate to get in contact.
Please note the launching will be slightly earlier due to tides for this year.
SIs issued for the Datchet Open Meeting on 8th & 9th March
We’re looking forward to a big turnout at the first Flying Fifteen open meeting of the year at Datchet, racing for the Mercedes Trophy, with visitors already declared from Hayling, Chew, Parkstone and Grafham.
The really important stuff is that the race officer is trying to get in 6 decent length races over the 2 days with a briefing at 10.30 on day 1 so people have a chance to launch and limber up before the first race at midday on Saturday 8th March. For those who want a lie in and have faith in their reading ability, the Sailing Instructions have been published on the club website. If you want an even longer lie in, you can even enter online using the form with the Notice of Racing
We’re looking forward to seeing you all the weekend after the dinghy show.
