National Rankings – Post Northerns…..!!
Flying 15 UK Ranking: Rounds 16 – Victory for Steve Goacher extends his lead as Richard Rigg rises to the top of the Crew’s ranking
Another well attended Flying 15 event this weekend at Bassenthwaite saw Steve Goacher win all 5 races to take the Northerns title in addition to the Inland Championship he won earlier in the season.
35 boats from as far as Hayling Island and Parkstone, along with those who travelled south across the Scottish border enjoyed some great sailing in tricky conditions.
Victory sees Goacher pull out a lead of over 500 points to put at least one on the National Ranking trophy for 2014 with six events left and is great preparation for the Europeans next month in Mallorca. Rigg who is also having a great season crewing for Greg Wells has risen to the top of the Crew’s ranking, as the pair look in good form as they seek to defend their title they won so brilliantly back in 2012 on Lake Garda.

Race Report on the Northern Championship is Published …!!
The full race report on the Northerns has just been published on the RWYC website – hopefully Y&Y Website to follow !!!!
They had a really super turnout – it’ll quite possibly be the biggest regional turnout this year! A clean sweep of the podium too, by RWYC teams. Steve Goacher and Phil Evans took the title in pretty challenging conditions – the word “naturally” springs to mind !!! A big “well done!” there!!

Hopefully, BIFFA HQ will publish the Qualifier League Table in a few days and we’ll see how Hong Kong is shaping up.
The Northerns Championships are a Bargain…!!!
I’d be grateful if you could bring to the attention of your fleet, the information that the Royal Windermere have waved the late entry fee for this event so if you are entering late you will have an whole extra £10 to spend on beer or fuel.
The entry fee of course includes two of our stewards legendary suppers for the Saturday night; we have booked a 15 knot wind blowing straight down the lake with glorious sunshine for the whole weekend, lets see if the weather gods play ball.

Going to the Northerns?? … Now Starting 1 Hour Later…..
RWYC have agreed to put back the 1st Warning signal from 11:55 to 12:55 for Sat 5th May to allow more time for travellers to arrive register and rig, the rational being to maybe attract a few more entrants.

The Northerns…..
Well – you know how it blew for us last Sunday…. The further North you went, the harder it blew. And the Northerns were on at Bassenthwaite…. And it’s a long way North… (Gosh – my body aches today…!!!) They had 22 compete on the first day (6 locals and 16 visitors). The Tullets won it, but it seems that Steve Goacher and Phil Evans put a big firm stamp on it, winning the first two races ( a ‘horizon job’…) then having a bit of a collision on the third race which took place on the Sunday. Only ten of the 22 boats ventured out on the second day – must have been a tad wild….!!!
The Yachts and Yachting article has a couple of great Roy Blackburn photos, and a lovely one of Phil and Steve. Phil says they only use cunningham as a ‘line of last resort’. In the photo, the cunningham is hard down… on a broad reach !!! Read it here
