I was over at the Datchet Open Meeting last weekend – John Hanson and Helen Selden were racing their super-smart new P&B boat, “SNAffU”.
It’s so subtle that I almost missed it, but if you study that photo above, isn’t that a new innovation from P&B? The tracks are mounted on a custom sloping little platform that exactly matches the Ovington side deck slope angle?? So now in John’s boat the face of the track is lying exactly vertical, and the 470 type adjustable platform mounts lie horizontally from there.

It has a very artistic effect of exposing the nylon ball race to the naked eye – rather attractive I feel and at least you’ll know they get washed regularly! Very nice! And we inch forward toward perfection again !!

The Datchet Open was really well attended. Nineteen enrolled and eighteen sailed – five from the home club leaves a strong travelling contingent of over a dozen. Looks like the Class is travelling again! Breezes were good too.
Now when I arrived on the Sunday, I found John Hanson underneath the boat spraying the new keel modifications with a secret and slippery polymer coating. Helen tried hard to convince me it was just ordinary paint – but, well, with these two you just never know. ;-))
John and Helen had a great regatta with the new boat – fourth and continuing a great start to their 2022 campaign. First were Andrew and Angus, then Greg and David in second and Charles with Dave Rickards was in third.
