Totally respect the commitment, work and craftsmanship…but there’s a part of me that says that we have lost any claim to being OD. Different hull shapes, sail plans, keel profiles, fitouts, corrector weights etc means unless we recognise that there are different “categories” of FF – acknowledged in competition – we run a real risk of losing fleet numbers. It’s been OK to have an Ovington 9 and be competitive…even with the new sailplan…but when some boats are carrying 20+kg in correctors…and have different sheeting capabilities etc…well they are in a different class (category). I love my boat FF3554..but the class has become an arms race lately… The Finn is looking increasingly attractive. Their 2nd hand price is indicative of their popularity – regardless of Lympix status.
