The Northern Area Championships held at Derwent Resevoir Sailing Club over the weekend 6-7th July saw a landmark reached for the year, with over 150 Flying 15’s competing across the 15 events held throughout the year so far. This serves to prove the strength and depth of the fleet in the UK.
Goacher has propelled himself to within a mere 54 points of Lovering at the summit of the National Ranking List with a dominant victory at Derwent with a clean sweep of bullets. Other title contenders, including Bax (4th) have moved to within 22 points of Greg Wells and a podium position. Nigel Tullet’s second has seen him jump up into the top 20, with Dave McKee (3rdplace) and Dan Challis rising into the top 15 and Adrian Tattersall (5th place) and Simon Longstaff climbing into the top 10.
Next week sees the UKGlobal National Championships descend upon the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy. With at least 8 of the top 10 ranked teams this year entered, and some teams finding a rich vein of form, this year could be one of the most fiercely contested competitions. It will also be a great build up for the British teams heading out to the World Championships later this year in Hong Kong.
