Goacher and Evans retain their Inland Championships title at Chew Valley in Round 7 of the UKGlobal National Ranking Series
The 2013 Inland Champions for the second consecutive year were Steve Goacher and Phil Evans from Royal Windermere. The racing was particularly fair and close with four different race winners over the weekend. This meant that there were just 5 points separating the top five teams, with Lovering/ Alvarado taking second from Cadwallader/ Stone, who were on equal points. Then Davy/ Busby and Greg/ Jameson took 4th and 5th respectively, also on equal points.
The boisterous conditions on Saturday were phenomenal with booming two and occasionally three sail reaches. The Flying 15 was thriving in idyllic conditions. Some of colossal gusts coming through took even the most consummate professionals by surprise, with Phil Evans and Alan Bax having to stand on their keels after monster wipe outs.
At the end of the weekend there has been a shake up in the leaderboard, with the consistent Lovering maintaining his lead at the top of the UKGlobal Ranking. Podium positions for Cadwallader and Goacher have promoted them to 2nd and 3rd. Alex Tatlow is the current leader in the Silver fleet, with Peter Card and Ray Cook holding 2nd and 3rd positions overall. While in the Classic divisions Keith Bromhead is top ranked boat, and Richard Taylor holding 2nd.
On another note, this weekend epitomised why the Flying 15 is such a friendly and honourable fleet, with a moments silence observed at the briefing in response to the events that occurred in San Francisco late this week. For me, this was exemplified by the mark/ logo of tribute displayed by Lovering/ Alvarado on their sail.
