One of the centre pieces of the new Flying Fifteen at the Dinghy Show was this carbon console.
When I had my boat built in 2008 I asked for this very same thing. The answer from Ovington was that it would be difficult to keep looking good and would need laquering every once in a while. Carbon gets dulled and scuffed easily they said. Maybe this is a new finish, but basically they talked me out of it as impractical.
I dont think the weight saving is really a point either, as the first thing they’ll do when measuring is slap 20 kilos of lead under this very same console….
So very sexy, but I think I’d pass on this particular idea….
